The Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism, PSU Phuket Campus, has obtained the UNWTO.TedQual Certification, the international quality standards from the United Nations World Tourism Organization for three years, from 24 May 2022 to 16 May 2025, for its Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Hospitality Management program and Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Tourism Management program. This certification is a globally recognized quality of education that conforms with the requirements of the labor market in world's tourism industry.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Pornpissanu Promsivapallop, Dean of the PSU Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism, revealed that UNWTO.TedQual is the highest quality certification of courses in tourism education internationally. In evaluating the courses UNWTO.TedQual emphases on the curriculum management system in six areas as follows:
- Development of a curriculum that responds to the tourism industry and graduate users.
- Admission process, students’ development and assessment.
- Curriculum and teaching management process.
- Lecturer’s management and development process.
- Management processes and tools that support the monitoring of curriculum’s quality.
- Promoting the implementation of all components, including supporting the tourism sector and society in accordance with the UNWTO's Global Code of Ethics for Tourism.
During the assessment, assessors interviewed those involved in the program, comprising students, professors, alumni, related entrepreneur associations and graduate users, to receive their opinions, which is an important part of assessing the quality of the courses and evaluating the course implementation in accordance with the United Nations World Tourism Organization: UNWTO.
These two accredited courses are international curriculums, housing 20% full-time international students from China, Japan, ASEAN and Europe. There are also exchange students under study abroad programs, who study one or two semesters at PSU and transfer the credits back to their universities abroad. However, before the Covid-19 situation, the faculty had about 100 students from Europe from over 20 nations around the world studying and doing activities with Thai students. All students of the faculty can also participate in exchange programs or Double Degree Programs at faculty's overseas partner universities around the world.
QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022, ranked PSU as No. 1 in the country and in the top 101-150 in the world in Hospitality & Leisure Management on April 6, 2022.
