PSU Computer Science Students join the Esports in SEA Games 2021

Thai athletes participated in the 31st SEA Games, held in Vietnam in May 2022. There was a total of 40 different sports and 11 participating countries. This year, Thailand sent athletes to participate in almost every program. One of them was the Esports led by Mr. Santi Lothong, President of Thailand E-Sports Federation.

On May 15, the Thai team competed in the FIFA Online 4, where Thailand defeated Vietnam with the score of 3-2, and successfully won the first Esports gold medal for Thailand. The participants in the game were students from the Computer Science Program of PSU Faculty of Science, namely Ms. Kochaphat Sornthumakul, Ms. Zulfa Chaisoognern, Ms. Thipmanee Deangpaiboon, Ms. Pattraporn Kumuda, Mr. Thanatat Nantiyo, Mr. Teeranun Petchsuk, Mr. Teerawut Yodboon, Mr. Alongkot Yamsuwan, and Mr. Kittitatch Kanchanathavorn.

Mr. Teeranun Petchsuk, a third-year student, said that being part of this competition, gave him and his friends the opportunity to meet and gain the trust of the President of Thailand E-Sports Federation to coordinate the teams, make content for publishing, summarize the results, collect pictures, make video clips and infographics. Moreover, he monitored every match throughout the games to use the information gained as a record for improving the team. He would like to thank to the Federation for trusting and giving him the opportunity to work at his best. This is his and PSU’s pride.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Chinnapong Angsuchotmetee, team’s advisor, said that this was a great opportunity that the President of the Federation has given to students as a summer internship. They have learnt from direct experience. It was also a training that influences the country. From teacher's view, it is a great pride and also a good opportunity for PSU Faculty of Science to collaborate and continue working with the Federation in the future.

Mr. Santi thanked to the students from PSU Faculty of Science for being part of this games. He believes that the experience gained from real situations is definitely different from studying, and the Federation always encourages students to be proud of their accomplishments.
