In March 2022, PSU received the Thailand Quality Class (TQC) award, as announced by the National Quality Award, organized by the National Quality Award Office. The event was presided by Mr. Kobchai Sangsittisawad. Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry, while PSU President Asst. Prof. Dr. Niwat Keawpradab, and Assistant to the President for Quality Development Assoc. Prof. Karanrat Soonthornpun, MD., represented PSU at the press conference.

      National Quality Award plays an important role in incentivizing organizations to commit to self-improvement and better adaptability to future changes, with readiness to handle challenges with international standards.

      PSU, the first university in southern Thailand, was established with the intention to improve the people’s quality of life and resources of the southern region. On its five campuses, PSU provides educational opportunities for locals coast-to-coast, ensuring access to a wide range of development opportunities, including education, research, building new knowledge and academic services in a multicultural society, for the last 55 years.

      Prince of Songkla University’s name was royally bestowed by His Majesty the King Rama 9, upholding the wishes of His Royal Highness Prince Mahidol of Songkla. PSU is committed to develop human resources, and create new knowledge using its abilities to the fullest in many aspects: the medical field, environment and marine resource conservation, food and agriculture, and creative economy, in order to solve problems in the southern region. The knowledge and innovations PSU created have worldwide implications, resulting in wide-spread recognition both domestically and abroad.

      In 2015, the University Council approved the use of the National Quality Award Criteria in university management at all levels. This led to the realization of opportunities to develop an effective PSU system and a strong cooperation network to be able to turn the institution into a leading research university, creating innovations for the region, the nation, and the world, for sustainable development.
