PSU administrators’ courtesy visit to H.E. Ambassador of Bahrain to Thailand for academic cooperation discussions

On 22 February 2022, a team of Prince of Songkla University administrators led by PSU President Asst. Prof. Dr. Niwat Keawpradub, paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Ms. Muna Abbas Mahmood Radhi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Kingdom of Thailand. H.E. Mr. Thanis Na Songkhla, former Ambassador of Thailand to the Kingdom of Bahrain, has also kindly joined the auspicious occasion.

The high-level discussions focused on continuing the multi-faceted collaborations between Prince of Songkla University and the Kingdom of Bahrain, particularly in the fields of higher education and public health. Her Excellency expressed appreciation regarding the strong bilateral relations between Bahrain and Thailand, and optimism towards the continuous progress of collaboration.

Prince of Songkla University has been historically prioritizing existing fruitful cooperation, and has stated its readiness to continue mutually beneficial activities in higher education and public health with the Kingdom of Bahrain at all levels, including academic staff exchange with the University of Bahrain, the exchange of medical specialists, and recruiting Bahraini students to study at Prince of Songkla University. To take the collaboration to the next level, PSU has recently signed an MoU with the Ministry of Health of Bahrain to provide supportive medical and public health assistance to the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The roots of PSU’s collaboration with the Kingdom of Bahrain can be traced back to over a decade ago, when the university has conferred an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Political Science to His late Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, former Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain. His late Royal Highness has provided instrumental support in the form of scholarships for students from underprivileged families, and provided the means for activities in various fields, including conducting research about subjects related to Bahrain and sponsoring graduate students to write theses on subjects related to Bahrain. His late Royal Highness has also generously provided scholarships to PSU students for conducting practical training at Bahrain-based institutions and organizations, in addition to funding PSU students to join the Student Exchange Program conducted at the University of Bahrain. The highlight of His late Royal Highness’ generous support was the establishment of the Bahrain Information Center at PSU’s Pattani Campus, alongside the support for activities related to university operations at “PSU Academy: Education Center” at Thai Mart Bahrain.
