PSU Hat Yai Campus: livable, safe, and modern through SDGs

PSU Hat Yai Campus put together a 3-year strategic plan following the university development policy and sustainable development goals for a livable, safe, modern and sustainable campus.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Wasin Suwannarat, Vice President of Hat Yai Campus, revealed that the campus operates under the university development policy in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), covering nearly all 17 goals. The three-year strategic plan for 2021-2023 features over 90 projects.

Hat Yai Campus has been focusing primarily on achieving SDG3 (Health and Wellbeing), with emphasis on the health and safety of students, staff and visitors. A rubberized running track was created at the reservoir, improving the landscape surrounding the campus. In addition to the increased greenery, smart poles were installed to measure PM 2.5 air quality, while the PSU Stadium has undergone development in order to be certified by Thailand MICE Venue Standard (TMVS).

In addition, in accordance with SDG11 (Cities and Livable Communities), road surfaces have been improved throughout the campus. To also encourage walking, a system of covered and uncovered walkways has been installed on campus. Electrical cables have been moved underground for safety and a more pleasant view. Campuswide wi-fi coverage ensures convenient and reliable communication, while a smart security system controlled by the Intelligent Systems Operations Center or IOC ensures safety with modern, innovative tools. The system features PSU Passcard for vehicles entering and exiting the campus, and a network of CCTVs capable of automatically reading license plates and vehicle characteristics, such as brand, color, and model. An automatic barrier system controlled via RFID cards or stickers ensures convenience, speed, and safety of staff. Besides the CCTV system, a parking monitoring system and environmental monitoring system allows staff to centrally monitor and manage data throughout the campus. Artificial Intelligence is used to aid staff with timely processing and accurate decision-making.

Moreover, Hat Yai Campus fosters cooperation with network partners, both government and private agencies, to support the operation of the campus in various fields, fulfilling SDG17 (development partner) requirements.

“Sustainable Development operations at Hat Yai Campus make the campus livable, safe, modern, and sustainable, to the benefit of students, staff, and visitors. We want to ensure that everyone feels comfortable and safe when they are at PSU’s Hat Yai Campus” Asst.
Prof. Dr. Wasin concluded.
