Corybas papillatus, a new type of orchid, was jointly discovered by the Plant Museum, PSU Faculty of Science, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sahut Chantanaorrapint, in collaboration with BKF Herbarium; Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation; and the Faculty of Science and Technology, Thammasat University.

The orchid “Euang Anyamanee Sri Thammarat” was obtained at Khao Luang National Park, Nakhon Si Thammarat province, by a team of botanical experts from BKF Herbarium. They have sent samples to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sahut Chantanaorrapint, a researcher of the PSU Faculty of Science, to check and identify its type and species. Research then revealed that it is a small terrestrial orchid with a round or oval shaped root, heart-shaped simple leaves, and round-tipped purple flower.

Subsequently, the team of Dr. Somrans Suddee, a botanist from BKF Herbarium; Dr. Janejaree Inuthai, a researcher from the Faculty of Science and Technology, Thammasat University; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sahut Chantanaorrapint, a researcher from the Plant Museum, PSU Faculty of Science, held a public discourse describing the new type of orchid, and assigned the epithet “papillatus”, referring to the characteristic small projections on the floral structure.

The findings were published in the PhytoKeys journal (doi: 10.3897/phytokeys.183.71167/ https://phytokeys.pensoft.net/.
