United Nations Development Program in Southern Thailand

Mr. Luc Stevens, United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator and United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Resident Representative, made a courtesy visit to PSU President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chusak Limsakul on November 7, 2012. The objectives of his visit were to enhance the partnership between UNDP and PSU, and to meet with the Institute for Peace Studies Project Management Committee (PMC) for the Southern Thailand Empowerment and Participation (STEP) project. Mr. Stevens also discussed future collaborations with Asst. Prof. Dr. Bussabong Chaijaroenwatana, director of the Institute for Peace Studies and chairperson of the PMC, and met with related representatives.

STEP is a collaborative program between the UN and the Royal Thai Government with the goal of enhancing community empowerment and public participation in local governance processes in southern Thailand. This is to be achieved by activities in areas focusing on capacity development of community-based organizations.
