On February 14, 2014, a Chinese-Thai Cultural Performance was presented by students from Jiangxi Normal University (JXNU) China, and PSU. The performance at the Students Activity Building of Hat Yai Campus showcased Chinese and Thai culture through traditional music, dances and songs.
The JXNU students were members of a delegation led by Ms. Guo Ruilan and Ms. Lei Ling, Director of Office for Overseas Study. They visited PSU under the Cultural Exchange Program, part of an MOU between the two institutions.
An opening speech by Dr. Paphavee Van Dommelen, Assistant President for International Affairs and Foreign Students, started the event. Performances included "Srivijaya Dance", a tribute to the legacy of the ancient empire that influenced much of Southeast Asia; the Chinese line dance "Zhuo Ma", the Northern Thai umbrella dance "Fon Tee", the ancient Chinese "peacock dance", along with contemporary Thai songs and dances, Chinese calligraphy and boxing performances. Two modern pieces from the PSU Dancing Club closed the event.
The tireless efforts of all organizers and participants of this intercultural event allowed local audience to experience fun aspects of a foreign culture in a relaxed, familiar setting, paving the way for fruitful collaborations in the future.
