Asst. Prof. Sunton Wongsiri from the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Physical Medicine, PSU Faculty of Medicine, won the World Innovation Order of Merit at the World Inventor Award Festival 2012 in Korea.

Asst. Prof. Sunton Wongsiri received this award in recognition of his outstanding innovation in hand surgery, the PSU Carpal Tunnel Retractor. This tool marks a breakthrough because it lowers the risk of complications, especially in women. It fits in the gap between the nerve tendon and muscle, allowing for an operation to be completed in only 8 to10 minutes. Previously, such operations took up to 30 minutes. After surgeons operate using the PSU Carpel Tunnel Retractor, patients recover and return to work faster. Further, it cuts costs because some surgical equipment no longer has to be imported from abroad.
