PSU Lecturer Receives the 2012 Young Technologist Award

The 2012 Young Technologist Award went to Asst. Prof. Chinnawat Surussavadee, lecturer at the Faculty of Technology and Environment, PSU Phuket Campus, and head of the PSU Andaman Environment and Natural Disaster Research Centre, for his achievement in developing the global satellite passive microwave precipitation retrieval algorithm, called AMSU MIT Precipitation retrieval algorithm (AMP). AMP helps estimate precipitations all over the world.

Asst. Prof. Chinnawat and Prof. David H. Staelin from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology developed together the AMP. It is considered the most hi-tech algorithm and can estimate the precipitation accurately in every area, which helps estimate rain quantity effectively. And this is beneficial for disaster warnings and preparations.
