PRIDE of PSU 2023 commemorates PSU’s founding day and honors contributors to its prestigious reputation

       Prince of Songkla University organized the PRIDE of PSU 2023 event, which is held annually on 13 March to commemorate the university's founding day. At the same time, the university recognized the outstanding contributions of faculty, staff, and students that had a positive impact on society and enhanced the university's prestigious reputation. This year also marked the university's 55th anniversary. PSU Acting President Asst. Prof. Dr. Niwat Keawpradub, presided over the opening ceremony, while Acting Vice President for Academic and International Affairs Asst. Prof. Dr. Thakerng Wongsirichot delivered a report. The event was attended by university executives, faculty, researchers, staff, and students at The 60th Anniversary of His Majesty the King’s Accession to the Throne International Convention Center on 13 March 2023.

 

       Dr. Niwat explained that the university was founded in 1966 and was granted the name “Prince of Songkla” by King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) on 22 September 1967. The Prince of Songkla University Act was announced on 12 March 1968, and became effective the following day. Therefore, 13 March 1968 is considered the founding day of the university. This year, the university also celebrates its 55th anniversary, and it remains committed to organizing the PRIDE of PSU 2023 event filled with enthusiasm and volunteerism. Dr. Niwat also pointed out that striving for the benefit for mankind is the mandate that PSU continually upholds as the first university and the main university of the South, in order to provide meaningful societal and economic development by focusing on the development of human resources in the southern region and throughout the nation.

 

       The event also featured a special speech by Prof. Dr. Sanit Aksornkoae, an honorary member of the University Council, on the topic "PRIDE of PSU towards Innovation for Sustainable Society". A variety of interesting activities completed the event, including singing performances by PSU students, Khon performances, and meeting outstanding national researcher of 2023 Prof. Dr. Perapong Tekasakul from the Faculty of Engineering. The importance of PSU alumni was also highlighted through the "Alumni and the PRIDE of PSU " activity, presented by Ms. Patimoh Sadeeyamu, the Governor of Pattani Province; Asst. Prof. Dr. Kiattisak Ratchaborirak, President of the PSU Alumni Association; and Mr. Wichet Pichairat, President of the PSU Pattani Campus Alumni Association. The program was moderated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Pipat Chooto.

       This year, a total of  56 recipients were presented with 13 awards: 1. Exemplary Teacher Awards, New Generation Teacher Awards, and Outstanding Achievements of PSU; 2. Award for Honoring the New Generation Teacher's Mentors; 3. Outstanding PSU Staff Award; 4. Award for Personnel Selection to be considered as National Outstanding Supportive Personnel, Council of University Administrative Staff of Thailand; 5. Award for Passing the Evaluation of the Teaching Performance Standard Framework of Prince of Songkla University (PSU-TPSF) at the Scholarly Teacher level, and Passing the Evaluation of the Teaching Performance Standard Framework of the United Kingdom (UK-PSF) at the Senior Fellow level; 6. Award for Passing the Evaluation of the Teaching Performance Standard Framework of Prince of Songkla University (PSU-TPSF) at the Scholarly Teacher level; 7. the Blue Jacket Award; 8. Outstanding Research Network Award; 9. Award for the Researcher with the Highest Number of Publication in the Web of Science Database for Science and Technology (as corresponding author); 10. Award for the Researcher with the Highest Number of Publication in the Web of Science Database for Health Sciences (as Corresponding author); 11. Award for the Social Sciences and Community Researcher with the Highest Number of Publication in the Top 5 Rankings of Databases (as author); 12. Award for Research papers that benefit Communities and Society, 13. Outstanding Student Award.
