A joint international conference on international cooperation and library modernization was hosted by Hanoi University in Vietnam, from 3 to 7 December 2018. The event started with a two-day training by an expert from the University of Seville, Spain, focusing on the role and structure of institutional libraries in the 21st century. The PSU Learning Resources Center was showcased prominently, along with the library systems of the other nine participating institutions from six countries. Participants worked together successfully to create an international library gateway, one of the main goals of MARCO POLO, a capacity building project partially funded through the Erasmus+ program of the European Union.
The highlight of the seminar was the keynote speech titled “Cooperation between EU and Vietnam and/or Southeast Asia”, delivered by Mr. Tom Corrie, Deputy Head of Cooperation, Delegation of the European Union in Vietnam. In addition, two notable experts from the host country, Vietnam, shared their knowledge about university cooperation in ASEAN, and developing Erasmus+ projects in Vietnam. MARCO POLO stakeholders also used this opportunity to organize their 3rd Steering Committee Meeting in conjunction with the seminar, discussing staff and student mobility among member institutions, and the future of the project.
The five-day event was an excellent opportunity for PSU to improve its internationalization capacities, expand its reputation on the global stage, and create meaningful cooperation with prominent institutions in ASEAN and Europe.
