On 1 March 2024, the PSU Faculty of Economics in collaboration with the International Peace Foundation (IPF), and with support from Mitsui Fudosan Asia (Thailand) Co., Ltd, Dusit Thani Hotel and Resort, Kasikornbank, and BMW, hosted a special lecture by Prof. Robert F. Engle III, a Nobel laureate in Economics. The talk, titled " The prospects for global financial stability" was held under the JAPAN-ASEAN BRIDGES Event Series in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Japan-ASEAN relations and the 55th anniversary of PSU. The event was opened by Vice President for Academic and International Affairs, Asst. Prof. Dr. Thakerng Wongsirichot, while Mr. Uwe Morawetz, Founding Chairman of the International Peace Foundation, provided a reporting speech, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Paratta Prommee, Dean, Faculty of Economics, gave a welcome remark. The event was held at the 60th Anniversary of His Majesty the King’s Accession to the Throne International Convention Center, PSU, Hat Yai, Songkhla.
Prof. Robert Engle is a professor of financial econometrics at New York University Stern School of Business. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2003 for his research on the autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity (ARCH) model, which developed methods for constructing statistical models for time-varying volatility and demonstrated that these techniques can accurately describe various features of time series. Prof. Engle awarded the prize together with Prof. Clive W.J. Granger. He currently serves as co-director of the Volatility and Risk Institute at New York University Stern School of Business, where he has developed tools for research to monitor global economic risks and disseminate this information to the public through the V-LAB website.
Dr. Thakerng stated that this occasion is the 4th event under the JAPAN-ASEAN BRIDGES Event Series, jointly organized by the university and the International Peace Foundation (IPF) as the host. This event was held to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of PSU in the year 2023.

Dr. Paratta expressed great honor in facilitating the special lecture by the Nobel Laureate in Economics. This topic is highly interesting as participants will have the opportunity to learn and understand the challenges and impacts arising from financial instability, risk management, and enhancing risk reduction strategies within our financial systems.

However, PSU will host another special lecture by a Nobel Laureate in medicine on 27 March 2024 at 15:00. The topic will be "The role of basic science in biotechnology" by Prof. Randy W. Schekman. The event will take place at the Thongchan Hongladarom Room, Conference Center, Faculty of Medicine.
