On 7 August 2024, the PSU Faculty of Medicine organized its 39th Annual Academic Conference, themed 'Seamless Futuristic Medicine,' which spanned from August 7 to 9, 2024. During the event, Dr. Prakob Luechakiettisak, M.D., a renowned surgeon from Surat Thani Hospital, was honored with the 2024 Outstanding Southern Doctor Award. The award plaque was presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Niwat Kaewpradub, President of PSU, while the accompanying cash prize was awarded by Asst. Prof. Dr. Kittipong Riabroy, M.D., Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, in a ceremony held at the Thongchan Hongladarom Room, PSU Faculty of Medicine.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supaporn Tengtrisorn, M.D., Chairperson of the Southern Outstanding Doctor Selection Committee for 2024, emphasized that the Southern Outstanding Doctor Award is an esteemed annual event held during the Faculty of Medicine’s academic conference. The selection criteria are rigorous, focusing on several key aspects:
- Candidates must have served as interns in the 14 southern provinces for at least five consecutive years, demonstrating high-quality and consistent care with a strong emphasis on the well-being of patients and the community.
- Candidates should exhibit diligence, leadership, creativity, and the ability to apply modern medical knowledge effectively and appropriately.
- Candidates must embody integrity, ethics, and a genuine service-oriented mindset.
The committee also conducted thorough site visits, interviews with the nominees, and engaged in discussions with related parties and patients. After careful consideration, the committee selected Dr. Prakob Luechakiettisak, M.D., as the recipient of the 2024 Outstanding Southern Doctor Award.
Dr. Prakob explained that receiving the 2024 Outstanding Southern Doctor Award was one of the proudest moments of his life, something he never expected. He viewed it as a truly honorable and valuable recognition. Dr. Prakob emphasized that the more significant challenge lies in sustaining this legacy after receiving the award, stating that the real honor and reputation come from continuing to care for patients as we should. He expressed deep gratitude to the Faculty of Medicine for this recognition and offered advice to younger generations pursuing medicine. He reminded them that being a doctor requires hard work and a willingness to sacrifice, but within that sacrifice, it is essential to maintain a work-life balance between oneself, work, and family. This balance, he said, is key to leading a fulfilling and harmonious life, both professionally and personally.
