1st ISCC Meeting and New MOU with UNISSA


The 1st Islamic Studies Coordinating Committee (ISCC) Meeting was held from November 23-24, 2013, at Centara Grand Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. This meeting, organized by the PSU College of Islamic Studies (CIS), located in Pattani Campus, brought together honorable rectors and prominent Muslim leaders and scholars to discuss the role of Islamic Studies in the new era, and to find ways of how Islamic Studies could manage effectively today's world challenges. The main objectives of the ISCC meeting were to make arrangements for the 3rd International Islamic Studies Conference to be held at PSU in 2015, as well as to define the structure of the Islamic Research Organizational Networking (Is-RON).

The previous international Islamic conferences, co-hosted by the PSU CIS and Yala Islamic University, namely the "Roles of Islamic Studies in Post-Globalized Societies" held from December 21-23, 2010, and the "Islamic Studies in a Changing World: Challenges and Opportunities" held from January 14-16, 2013, gathered remarkable educationists and dignitaries from various Islamic higher institutions from all over the world.

   

The 1st ISCC Meeting was attended by prominent Muslim leaders and knowledgeable researchers and educationists from Brunei, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Liberia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and Turkey.

An important agenda for this meeting was the MOU Signing Ceremony between PSU and Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Brunei Darussalam, held on November 24. This new agreement will allow the PSU and UNISSA staff and students to establish collaborative activities, such as executive, staff, and student exchanges, as well as study abroad programs.
This will also provide accelerate the good friendship between the people of the two countries and enhance the knowledge transfer that will lead to new innovations.

   

Moreover, our honorable guests had the chance to visit the Halal Science Center at Chulalungkorn University and the Foundation of Islamic Centre of Thailand, and got a clearer insight on the Muslim life and Islamic knowledge spread in Thailand.
