The National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) chosen the National Outstanding Researcher of the Year 2015 in Agriculture and Biology to Prof. Dr. Supayang Voravuthikunchai, Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science, Prince of Songkla University, as a natural product researcher aimed to solve public health problems.
In addition to the prestigious title, Dr. Supayang's research work was also named Invention of the Year 2015 in Agriculture and Biology, on Thailand Inventor's Day 2015, February 2nd,2015, at IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, Nonthaburi. This event featured Prof. Dr. Yongyuth Yuthavong, Deputy Prime Minister as the Guest of Honor.

Dr. Supayang's main research interest is gaining knowledge of natural products in order to solve public health issues, with a particular focus on finding the beneficial effects of herbal bioactive compounds to be used in the development of pharmaceutical products.
Dr. Supayang's latest research into naturally-derived antibiotics has been funded by the Agricultural Research Development Agency (ARDA), to develop a drug for treating external wound infections in diabetic patients. This drug will help keeping wounds dry and heal well, thereby alleviating chronic pain in diabetic patients.
